Hope all is well, I’m glad to hear that the market has started to pick itself back up, the 120 looks phenomenal.

As you aware this was Lizzi’s first season as a charter vessel, I have been blown away by her performance and reliability. Having worked in industry for over 6 years, I have worked on many yachts. From Ferretti to Riva, Sunseeker to Princess and many more, not one of then can compete with the lazzara 75 LSX, in both build quality and engineering.

We have managed to complete 7 weeks of charter with no problems except with the jet ski, which sunk (long story, will tell you about it at the Cannes boat show). At the end of each charter I present the client with there accounts onto a spreadsheet. Every single client turned around and said “Tristan you have made a mistake with the amount of fuel that we have consumed, it should be a lot more”. When I tell them the fuel consumption of the boat they have all been blown away and make comments like “the same size Mangusta burns twice the amount than the Lsx 75″.So they all walk away with smiles on there faces.

This season we have completed over 4500nm and we have had 0 problems with the IPS drive system. We did have to change 4 props due to an impact with what we thought was a submerged log. But we manage to change all 4 props within 2 hours because we had spare props onboard.

All the feedback from both the charter clients and charter agents has been beyond expectation, They have all be blown away by the boat and the service. The owner is thrilled with both the crew and boats performance.

We have our last charter starting tomorrow and finishing early morning on the 9th, So in the afternoon I think the owner and myself will come and visit you guys, find something to give you a hard time about.

From M/Y Tatami

Dear Family,

At the end of a wonderful time in Italy and France with out beloved Tatami we have been again to famous Portofino. On August 31, Tatami will be loaded for her way back to Ft. Lauderdale.  We had a wonderful trouble free time in 180 hours of crusining time.

The Good.

Overall attendance was the same if not more than last year and specifically for us it was a good show.  This was the first year we had a boat in the show, while previous years we only had a display.  Having the actual product there was an important step for us.  By the third day word had gotten around to go and see the Lazzara LSX75.  The quality, design and presentation of the boat were a draw and something everyone commented favorably on.  The overall interest in our product mainly focused on the LSX line in the 75, 92 and new 75 fly.  And that interest came from around the region, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Qatar and Abu Dhabi. We have several great prospects and I am confident we will have 1-3 sales directly from this boat show.

The Bad

Uncertainty, the same problem that is plaguing our industry as a whole, is also prevalent here.  Questions about whats going to happen with various boat companies, where is the bottom of this economic downturn, what will my boat be worth in another 2-3 years, etc.  All of those objections that we heard at the Miami Show were in Dubai as well.  That’s something we continually will have to fight.  We’re tackling it head on by doing several things. First, we limit production so we aren’t fighting our own inventory or hurting our pre-owned market. Second is developing new product with the cutting edge technology so that it retains a higher resale value.  Third, producing product that is more economical to use and maintain like our LSX line or our new LMC line,  all of which use pod drives that are much cheaper to run.

The Ugly

There is a surplus of boat inventory, too much.  Most of the “new” boats on display were 2008 models and some were even 2007 models.  This is not only a huge problem for the region but for the industry as a whole. One of the regions most prominent dealers in our size yachts has 40 units worth nearly $100 million in stock!  And there story is no different from any other volume builder/distributor around the world.  It’s one of the reason Lazzara Yachts mission statement says our “goal is to build a few, high-quality, innovative yachts”.  It’s hard enough to sell new yachts let alone competing against your own new models that are 1-2 years old.

Dubai Marina is actually a city within a city.  Essentially its one of the worlds largest marinas with housing, shopping, restaurants and of course dock space.  It’s a great tour by the waterway as you weave in and amongst the huge buildings each with their own unique shapes.  The waterway weaves through this city for several miles and located within this stretch is the Dubai Marina Yacht Club where we will keep the LSX75.  If  your in the area and would like to tour the yacht just drop me an email and Ill put you in touch with someone who can show you around. We couldn’t get the boat out from the show yesterday as they were still moving docks around.  So in the meantime we went for a tour around the area.  In Dubai the one thing they certainly have is malls, big ones and lots of them.  The Dubai Mall has one of the largest aquariums in the world and it is as impressive as that sounds.  However having seen large aquariums at SeaWorld, Atlantis Bahamas and Atlantis Dubai the most impressive thing about it wasn’t the fish, but the technology.  If you look at the pictures closely you will notice there are no seems in the acrylic!  This is one piece of acrylic 125′ x 30′.  Actually it was multiple pieces that they developed a process to fuse together forming one continuous seamless piece.  A remarkable design and one you should see if you get the chance.  See more photos here

The 2009 Dubai Boat Show is done.  We had a very good show, met many new prospects, have several sea trials set up and are looking forward to closing some deals.   I will post an overall impression of the show later, but for now I am hoping to go on a boat ride with a prospect.

Day 4 was the best day yet.  We toured a lot of people and met many new prospects.  The overall traffic for the boat show is defiantly not down.  I mentioned one of the unique things about the Dubai show is it’s nighttime presentation.  I walked around and shot some photos of it here.  Hope you enjoy.  Only one more day left of the show.  If it was like yesterday it should be a good one.

Day 3 of the Dubai Show 

The show continues to have a steady flow of traffic.  I would say that it is the same as last year with no drop in overall attendance.  One of the nice things about the show is that it is open from 3pm – 9:30pm.  So the crowds really get largest around 7pm.  The show at night has a spectacular presentation with all the city lights reflecting everywhere as well as the underwater lights of all the boats shining through the clear blue water.  This time of the year weather is always perfect here as well (68F).  The combination of perfect weather and nighttime presentation make for a great event.  We have toured people representing countries from all around the region and have arranged for a sea trial after the show for a prospect.  In all we are excited about the opportunity to sell our product in this region.  The weekend is upon us and the crowds will certainly be higher than the previous days.  Looking forward to meeting more people and showing them the quality of the LSX.

I got a chance to walk around and talk with several people in the industry about the economy.  The bottom line is the same that is true in the US and Europe is true here too.  People are concerned about the future and are cautiously moving forward.  I will tell you that the attendance at the show does not appear to be any less than last year.  I asked everyone what they had seen and the overwhelming response was that attendance was not down. This is certainly good news.  As for us, the momentum for a company like ours is just getting started. Most people in this region haven’t seen a Lazzara and are just blown away by the level of quality we offer over our competitors.  We have met prospects from Dubai, Kuwait, Quatar, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, India and Europe.  It is a wonderful gateway to introduce our product and company to a broad base of people from all around the world.  One thing is for sure, it doesn’t matter where you are from, quality, style and innovation is a universally understood language and characteristics that are certainly recognized on a Lazzara Yacht.

So day 1 of the Dubai Boat Show is behind us.  My favorite quote, possibly of the year, is one that appeared in the local newspaper Gulf News, “With property prices declining in Dubai, a boat is a more stable investment”  Sounds good to me.  According to Gulf News there are 721 companies participating in this years show.  Thats down from 810 in 2008 and 722 in 2007.  However there are 400 boats on display, up from 176 in 2008 and 142 in 2007.  I think that’s mostly an increase in boats under 50′.  

From our stand point this is the first year we are showcasing our LSX75 to the market and only the second year Lazzara has participated in this show.  For the most part no one has seen a Lazzara here. It’s a great opportunity for us to introduce the brand and the product at the same time.  Our display is located next to Hatteras and just down from Majesty Yachts, a local builder. You can see pics of our display here.  Special thanks to Mike Myers from Quality Marine for all the hard work he did on the display.  So far we have had a steady flow of people throughout, met some new prospects and have some scheduled appointments coming over the next 4 days.  We’re looking for to a productive boat show.
